Fear, Pain And Regret - A Dark Poem
79Fear, pain, and regret
Are forever with me.
They torment me while I sleep
And consume when I awake.
I hide behind masks hoping
You will not see the real me.
The me that is damaged
By the misfortunes of yesterday
I awake every morning
Trying to find a reason
To keep on living.
Today the search will continue.
Darkened depression lays
Hold on my weary mind
And digs its claws
Into my fragile psyche
Will the sun ever shine
On the darkened days
Of my meager existence
With fear, pain and regret?
If you could see past the façade
And into my anguished soul
You would gaze upon scars
That disfigure my heart.
Inside you would find
The mummified remains
Of hope, faith and trust.
Lifeless objects of the past.
How long must I live this way?
How long till there is relief?
Free me from my prison
Of fear, pain and regret.

What Is Depression
CommentsLoading...
Wow Sambo it was incredible. Where did the inspiration behind it come from? Have you been down that road? Hugs my friend x0
Amazingly true, you've managed to get right underneath it all. Although painfully sad, there will be many that can relate past or present to this poem. As for myself, this was very much my past.
This poem will touch the hearts of many,
Great Job!

Sam, this is so powerfully written that I sense that you've known some of this at times in your life. I hope all is well now.
Beautifully worded.
A wonderful poem showing so much heartbreak. I think a lot of people are in similar situation. We all put a mask on when we go out. Thank you sharing which helps.
Very sad poem and there is no harm in it - very well written...

Okay, you got me-once again...this is a beautiful, realistic view of depression and the loss that one feels when they are suffering. Thank you for expressing it so elegantly in this poem.

Samboiam, This poem touched my heart as it was so sad and I know many people will relate to feeling just like this if not now, sometime in their life. You expressed the feelings so well. I wish you the best.
You captured the hurt soul and described it so very well. Wonderful job.
Oh that's beautiful poetry alright! Trust me....And your images ('mummified remains' and 'claws Into fragile psyche') leave such a powerful impact. I loved it...!
You did write this one for me, right? I mean I told you all this stuff, didn't I? When was that again? LOL!
Anyone who has been under the spell of the black dog will relate to these powerful images. I certainly do, in a very powerful way.
Thanks so much for putting the pain and the fear into such eloquent words.
Love and peace
Tony
Very sad. I hope you don't actually live this way, but if you are like most of us, sometimes you do, and sometimes you don't. Good writing.
sam . . . in life each and every one of us at some point and to some degree will face Fear, Pain And Regret. Fear is from the unknown, pain is a sense and regret is hindsight. . it all depends what we do with all this. Some wallow, some fight it. Your words here are powerful, an incredible read my friend. . I am not sure if it just the way I look at the dark but I felt hope. A wanting to be released in facing the dark hoping but never saying out loud that just as there is dark, buried within there is also light. Awesome absolutely awesome!
loved it :)
I think you captured it.
Wow! This poem so describes the helplessness of one of my friends. Depression has sunk its claws into her so deeply I don't know if she can get free of its hold. Very Powerful! I voted it up!
Good poem; i like how well you matched the pics.
Great poem
thoughtful indeed
It's make sad little but again it is a great creation
Sam...you have so vividly capture the insidious nature of depression and the harmful way in which it slowly breaks a person down and causes the loss of hope. Excellent work! WB
Nice poem!

Sad poem samboiam, but I know it can be real...I lived through it first hand when both my sons suffered with it before they got help. Thanks for sharing it. It needs to be told, even if it is not always a welcome event or subject. Depression hurts everyone!
