Motivational Quotes and Inspirational Sayings
79My name will probably never be mentioned with the great inspirational motivational speakers of our day. I am afraid I will never be renowned as one to articulate my thoughts in such a way that would evoke feelings of great passion and move masses to action. However, I do love inspirational and motivational quotes and speeches. There are few things that I enjoy as much as watching inspiring films and reading motivational books. I am always looking for inspiring words to live by.
When one thinks of motivational and inspirational quotes and sayings, there is no better source than the trio of Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and Samuel Langhorne Clemens whose pen name was, none other than, Mark Twain. These men were not only leaders in their generation but the motivational words they spoke have certainly outlived them.
The following is a compilation of quotes from these great American heroes. As you read the words of these men I hope you find yourself motivated and inspired. If you get a good laugh out of their words of wisdom that would be a definite plus as well

7. No man will ever carry out of the Presidency the reputation which carried him into it.
8. I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
9. In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.
10. It is always better to have no ideas than false ones; to believe nothing, than to believe what is wrong.

Great hub, Sam. I love quotes. I try to find calendars and desk planners with daily quotes on them, I have the cognitive skills of a goldfish so naturally I never remember them, but each time I read I am mometarily inspired, lol!
Thomas Jefferson was my hero.. and I love the quotes you chose!!!
I loved those, Sambo. My father was a quoter, and my family lives on good quotes. (:v
A great hub with well chosen quotes. Thank you.
Great selection of quotes. Great men to draw quotes from.
These quotes remind me of the Hope Quotes from KoffeeKlatch Gals. I loved these as much as hers. Very good, samboiam.
Great quotes, Franklin is one the men I respect most in history.
Lovely quotes you have here, very insiational and some made me chuckle. I would also like to add that I think you could well end up being renowned for inspiring others. Even if you are a modest soul. ;)
Hi,
I too love quotes. I love this one:
Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment. So true, but so hard!
And this one made me laugh :)
I didn't fail the test, I just found 100 ways to do it wrong
Very nice hub!
Great quotes from some of history's most respected men. Good hub.
Thomas Jefferson couldn't have said it better in his quote "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." There needs to be a new department in government in charge of Waste Management - not referring to garbage and sewage - but rather to the appalling waste of time, money, paper, office space, flights, fuel, vehicles, hotel rooms, meals, etc............. that are utilized unnecessarily at the taxpayers expense. Good choice of quotes for your hub. We all stand to learn from these wise words.
Terrific selection of quotes. Where are the founding fathers when you really need them?
You have a great selection here!
I love quotes too! I have two hubs on quotes actually. Maybe we should link up. What do you think?
God bless!

These quotes are great. Thanks!
The wisdom of Great Men, a splendid collection of quotes.
Should we be smart enough to learn and remember even just half of them and more importantly apply about 25% of them we will be better people and have fewer problems.
Great quotes never dulls a thinking mind. my quote:-)
I loved all of the above, but my favorite man in Sam Clements..I have his works and he was the master of quotes. I can sit all day and listen to his tall stories and his meanderings of verse. I rate this Hub Up..good job.
Sam: What a wonderful hub! I was actually thinking of making a hub similar to this a couple weeks back. We all need quotes like these, they truly are helpful. Thanks so much for sharing, Sam, you've made another brilliant hub! :)
Mark Twain gives very practical and down to earth advice with a wry sense of humor
Reading the Mark Twain quotes also brought back fond memories of my early youth when I shared a river raft with tom and huck as I read their adventures until the early morning light.
I can't believe that the first quote from Thomas Jefferson was actually one of my favourites. I love to write in my free time but I must admit that, without all the inspirational quotes that are out there, I couldn't even put two words together.
My favourite one is from Isaac Asimov's Foundation: "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent". It was Salvor Hardin's maxim.
Nice hub, so fascinating.
Great batch of quotes! Thanks!
One of my fave Mark Twain quotes is this one: "Tell the truth and you don't have to remember anything."
Great hub!
I love quotes...they always give you a sense that we are not alone and have the power to uplift us when we are down in life. Thanks for this collection-they truly are great quotes from some great leaders in time.
“As for what is not true, you will always find abundance in the newspapers.” –Thomas Jefferson to Barnabas Bidwell, 1806.
"Write your injuries in dust, your benefits in marble." This one will stay with me a long time - thank you.
Thanks for sharing your look into the motivations that helped to grow a great nation. These men were wise and witty.
This is a good collection of quotes and many of them are just as applicable today as they were then. I guess that's what makes them great (LOL!). There's one by Calvin Coolidge that goes something like, "My enemies I can deal with, it's my damn friends who keep me up walking the floors at night." Good write Sam! WB
WOW, this is very well put together! I just started out and my first hub is: RV Parks on HubPages, but I plan to make more, once I get HubPages figured out, and I think I'd like to do a hub similar to this one.
You have put up some great inspiring quotes here. Great Job!
This is a great collection! I love quotes and use them daily for life, leaving notes for others and I just journal them as well. Great hub, I enjoyed it! Hope you are well.
A wonderful compilation of quotes from the greatest minds. So much wisdom packed into this hub. My favourite is Mark Twain's: Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it.
Thank you.
Love the quotes. Thanks. Thomas Jefferson also said -- I cannot live without books. A sentiment I echo. Love your bio too -- teenage sons causing your wife's grey hairs. I can relate!
WOW! I am a very belated visitor to this hub, it seems! ;-) I love Mark Twain.
My husband kees one of his quotes on his desk:
"Tell the truth, and you don't have to remember anything."
I use that also as a signature line in my e-mails.
Great hub--voted up!
Oh my goodness!! I am so glad I found your hubs. These are wonderful. You are such a prolific writer and thinker. I love Ben Franklin, Mark Twain, and Thomas Jefferson. There aren't any other men with more common sense and intelligence from history than these three men.

bravo, bravo, bravo! man these are good. this should be copied and sent to every government official in this nation and require them to learn every line of this and practice it. these types of quotes cause a person to look inward at our selves, outward at our government, and upward to God to help us. well done . sissy
